Nepal – the land of the Himalayas
Nepal is a small and beautiful country ranging from the plains of the ‘terai’ at an average height of 200 m to the frigid heights of Mt. Everest at 8848 m, the highest point on Earth. With such a diversity of altitude and climate, Nepal is a veritable nature lover’s paradise. The inspiring art and architecture of the cities of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur attracts thousands of tourists. The Himalayan trekking regions with their soaring, snow-covered peaks, unspoiled villages and wild rivers are a major attraction.
Lalitpur – the city of beauty
Lalitpur also known as Patan was for centuries an independent kingdom in the Kathmandu valley. Art, architecture, music and literature flourished in the city. The Patan Durbar square with its temples and palaces is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The artistic traditions of Patan continue even today and her artisans and artists are famous all over Nepal for producing objects of rare and ethereal beauty.
Lalitpur/Patan is the oldest city in the valley. The city is at an average altitude of 1200 m. The temperature in the peak of winter can drop down to – 30C while in summer the temperature reachs up to 340C. The average rainfall is 112 cm, most of it is during the monsoon from June to September.

Travel Information
Lalitpur is a sub-metropolitan city separated from Kathmandu by the Bagmati River. Kathmandu is connected by air to the Indian cities of New Delhi, Varanasi (Benares) and Kolkata. There are regular flights to Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Karachi, among others. Comfortable buses leave Kathmandu for the border towns of Bhairahawa and Birgunj. The Indian rail head of Raxaul is near Birgunj while Gorakhpur is about 120 km from Bhairahawa. Kathmandu valley is well connected by road and air to the various cities and towns of the country.
The college and the teaching hospital are situated at Imadol and accessible by micro buses, buses or taxis. The Integrated Basic Medical Sciences (IBMS) block is situated at Gwarko across the Karmanasa River. The college is within walking distance from Gwarko Chowk of Ring Road.
Foreign students (other than Indian nationals) should obtain a tourist visa which is available on disembarkation at the Kathmandu airport. Students must first obtain a visa for 60 days. Later the college will assist the students in obtaining a student visa. Indian nationals do not need a visa but must have a passport/Voter’s ID card.
Imadol – where the college is situated
The KIST Medical College (KISTMC) Hospital and the Academic Block are located in Imadol, a place according to some historians said to have been visited by Emperor Ashoka in antiquity and even today his influence is manifested by the Ashoka stupas. The site has all the conveniences yet is away from the hustle and bustle. The college is at a distance of around 3 km. from the historic Patan Durbar square with its majestic architecture and around 6 km. from the Tribhuvan International Airport – the only international airport of the country.

There is a canteen in the ground floor of the IBMS Block providing hygienic & tasty food.
College library
The college library has all the required text books and reference books required for the MBBS course. Online resources, CD-ROMs and DVDs are also available in the college library. Over 3000 textbooks, reference books and other categories of books are available in the college library. The college subscribes to a number of national and international journals and online access to over 3000 journals is available through online databases.
