One day workshop on ‘Getting your articles published in scientific journals’ at KIST Medical College
KIST Medical College, Lalitpur is organizing a one-day workshop on getting your research published in scientific journals on Saturday, 27th February 2010 (15th Falgun 2066). The workshop will use a mix of presentations and activity-based learning sessions to help the participants improve their scientific writing skills and improve their chances of getting published in Scientific Journals.
Around 45 participants from various institutions in Nepal are participating. The institutions represented are Patan Academy of Health Sciences (PAHS), Kathmandu Medical College (KMC), Nepal Medical College (NMC), Asian College of Advanced Studies, National Institute of Science and Technology, Institute of Medicine, KIST Medical College (from within the Kathmandu valley) and Manipal College of Medical Sciences (MCOMS), Pokhara, and Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel from outside the valley.
The international resource persons are Prof. Mohamed Izham and Dr. P. Subish from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang, Malaysia. Both are working at the Department of Social and Administrative Pharmacy at USM. Many Nepalese pharmacists are pursuing their Masters and Doctoral programs at USM under Prof. Izham. The local resource persons from KIST Medical College are Dr. RM Piryani and Dr. P. Ravi Shankar. All resource persons have extensive experience in publishing and have a number of articles in various journals.
The workshop will be in the College auditorium, top floor, hospital building and is planned to be from 8 am to 4 pm. Among the topics to be covered are ‘Writing an original research article’, ‘Writing an abstract’, ‘Why articles are rejected – views from a reviewer’, ‘Tips for effective scientific writing’, ‘Writing a case report’ and ‘Journals where you can publish your work’. The workshop will be inaugurated by Prof. TP Thapa, Principal, KIST Medical College. Mr. Krishna Prasad Acharya, Chairman, KIST Medical College will distribute the certificates to the participants. The second year MBBS students are planning an arts and crafts exhibition on the sidelines of the workshop.
To promote research aptitude among students of KIST Medical College there will be a 90 minutes presentation to interested students about scientific writing.
Prof. BMS Karki (Director Academics), Prof. Bidur Osti (Hospital Director) and Dr. SS Hiremath (Deputy Hospital Director and CAO) are also expected to grace the occasion.
