It is my immense pleasure to inform that KIST Medical College has completed one academic year and successfully conducted the very first year of MBBS program of Institute of Medicine (IOM). As the curriculum of IOM emphasizes on problem oriented integrated basic medical science education with early clinical exposure and community based learning, it was a daunting task for the management as well as to all the basic medical science faculties and certain faculties of major clinical department like Medicine, Surgery, Obs. & Gynae and Pediatrics to achieve the objectives of the curriculum.
Despite many unseen and unpredictable hurdles, I am proud to inform you that our committed and dedicated faculties have successfully completed the course as per our calendar of operation.
At the time of writing this message our first year students are busy in their residential field.
Apart from all theory and practical classes being conducted as per schedule, regular internal assessment has been one of the mile stones of our program. Dr. Ravi Shankar deserves special thanks. Counseling with parents or local guardians, particularly with those, whose child is a slow learner is one of the unique activities of our college. Prof. Balman Singh Karki has been instrumental in this activity.
I am also happy to inform that the college has conducted two in-house Teacher Training Workshops on ‘Helping Students Learn’ for all the IBMS faculties and certain clinical faculties as well, apart from sending five faculties to similar kind of training in the Medical Education department, IOM.
As KIST is in the process of growth and development, the challenges are bigger and greater day by day. However, I have confidence that the promoters, who have trust in quality medical education, will overcome these challenges. I invite you to come and grow with KIST family by joining the endeavor for excellence in holistic healthcare, education and research.
